SPIW (scanning probe image wizard) is a powerful toolbox for automated scanning probe microscope (SPM) image analysis. The toolbox has been open-sourced and is available from sourceforge. A more detailed explanation of SPIW’s abilities was published in the Review of Scientific Instruments.

SPIW was developed into a toolbox using the code from the image analysis side of the Automated STM imaging project. Many of its algorithms are applicable to almost any SPM images, but SPIW’s real power is for images with atomic or molecular resolution. The gallery below presents example outputs of some of SPIW’s features. These images along with the code used to generate them is part of the help file packaged with SPIW.
